Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the Berry Capital Campaign Projects

How did Berry come up with this need for a capital campaign?
As Berry Memorial’s church approaches its first 100 years of worship, there has been an increased awareness of the space we’ve been given to worship in, as well as an enhanced sense of thankfulness. This gratitude fuels our stewardship in giving back to our church gifts for worshippers of the next 100 years.

Who chose the specific projects?
The Berry Trustees are responsible for the well keeping of the church building. They schedule, hire, and/or perform maintenance on the church and the education building. At times the projects exceed the normal operating budget. These projects were shared with the Berry United Methodist Capital Campaign Organization, who then made the decision on what projects to include. Projects were chosen for their need and for their lasting impact for the next century. While some projects may have to be repeated before 100 years pass, all who use this building believe the projects are those that strengthen, revive, and enliven our church and worship.

Can I see the estimates on what each capital campaign item costs?
Yes, the Trustees have estimates for each of the areas identified in the capital campaign. For areas that you believe you can help reduce costs, the Trustees and the Capital Campaign organization would gladly appreciate your help to make that happen. Savings will be applied to other capital needs projects defined by the campaign.

Raising hundreds of thousands of dollars seems really hard. Is it even possible?
In recent years, Berry Memorial has raised funds for many programs and many capital expenditures. A few years ago, Berry faced a roofing bill that exceeded $70,000, the initial stained glass project of $45,000, a boiler bill that was almost $30,000, and an accessibility project that exceeded $25,000. Berry raised the money and met those challenges. This time we have help from more than just Berry. In addition to your help we’re drawing on a multitude of helpers, whether its the other partners and organizations in our building, former members and friends of Berry, consultants who have helped with other churches' capital campaigns, and the community at large around Berry Memorial. We are building together for the next century at Berry.
